Hyowook Chiang, Ph.D., Managing Director of Welch Consulting will speak on the topic “Cutting Edge Strategies To Combat Sexual Harassment In The Workplace” on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the NELC Annual Conference in San Diego, CA.

He will be joined by Rafael E. Lázaro, Founding Member, Lázaro Law Group, Mey Ly-Ortiz, Managing Counsel of Employment & Labor at Toyota Motor North America, Travis Sumter, Lead Labor & Employment Counsel at Facebook and Lisa C. Hamasaki, Shareholder at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.

The panel will discuss sexual harassment in the workplace and how this is a monumental national problem. While fifty four percent (54%) of women report having been harassed at some point in their careers, only twenty-five (25%) report it. These numbers and the corresponding #MeToo movement have made one thing clear — our current systems (both internal corporate structures as well as external administrative, legislative, and judicial) have failed. The panel will also discuss cutting edge solutions to the pressing issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. Come learn what social science research reveals about the causes of harassment and what employment lawyers can do to tackle this problem. The panel will present ideas to foster change by increasing accountability, transparency, and equity. Issues to be addressed include pertinent internal policies, training programs, and salary transparency as a strategy for increased equity. At the end of the program participants will be equipped with practical knowledge that can be applied to their organizations to foster a harassment-free culture.
