This year’s ABA Labor and Employment Law Conference will feature an additional full day of labor and employment law, “Foundations and Essentials,” which will take place on November 5, 2020 and is geared toward new and young lawyers. As part of this program, Valentín Estévez, Ph.D., Managing Director at the Bryan, Texas and Washington, DC offices of Welch Consulting, will join other distinguished panelists to discuss timely issues in the Wage and Hour arena. Their panel, “Wage and Hour Basics” will be held at 11:45 am – 1:00 pm EST on November 5th.

Wage and Hour Basics

Learn the fundamentals of wage and hour law, including a review of common scenarios and pitfalls that can subject an employer to liability under federal, state or local wage and hour laws, and the enforcement priorities of government agencies targeting alleged wage and hour violations. Panelists will discuss how to make an accurate wage calculation, including determining compensable hours, computing the regular rate and the compensation included in it, the applicable overtime rate for different types of compensation, when and where the fluctuating workweek calculation is appropriate, what statute of limitations applies, whether liquidated damages should be assessed, and when to retain a damages expert.
